ABOUT THE ARTISTS IN THE SOLO SHOWS
Southhampton based artist, Jeff Muhs is largely known for his work as a painter, having his works exhibited in galleries, collections and museums nationwide. Continually inspired by the light, water and horizon that surround him, his paintings have undergone an evolution from its beginnings of literal depictions of his environment. Muhs explains: “My father was a hunting and fishing guide, so I was always out on the water with him, sunrise, sunset, my whole life. So this natural area became the inspiration for me, artistically.” The inspiration remains consistent, but the works are reduced to the point of abstraction, with a modernist touch. The artist’s works are held in the collections of the Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, NY, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the collection of Beth Rudin DeWoody, among others.
As reflected in his latest paintings, Charlie Bluett's painting has been driven by his overriding passion for the enhancement of the process, and the flow and ebb of life, and the light and color of the everyday. His contemporary abstract colorfield paintings focus on the natural scenes & objects we are exposed to within the Earths vast and varied outdoor environments. Contours, tones, colors & natures balance feature heavily in his paintings, and capture the very essence of the natural world around us and the elements that combine to create it. Bluett currently works from his studio in Vermont, part of the beautiful & inspirational North East Kingdom of the USA.
The exhibition, titled LOVE + COURAGE, features Perez’ most recent collection. The inspiration stems from the period of isolation where Perez felt a sense of urgency to connect with her parents who immigrated to the United States from Uruguay in her early childhood. The series is on exhibition from now to February 12th, 2022. Monica Perez’ works are expressions of emotion imposed by spontaneous gestures of hands-on canvas. Through the LOVE + COURAGE series, Perez describes that she discovered a new perspective of her parents, finally seeing them fully instead of having a child-like perspective of them.
Her aesthetic unites paint and design with strokes of abandon and constraints of composition. She predominantly works in acrylic and often merges tactile and digital techniques in a single piece.
