Khabbaz was born in Caracas Venezuela in 1979 and discovered a deep interest in drawing and painting at a young age. At age 15, Jean-Paul moved to Dallas, TX to pursue a soccer scholarship while continuing his education and taking all the art classes possible.
Knowing that soccer was not going to be his ultimate career, Khabbaz chose to attend college at the School of Visual Arts at the University of North Texas where he received a BFA in Communication Design. After graduating in 2003, He began a career in Design and Art Direction and continued pursuing his passion for fine art— exploring his artistic style, showcasing in galleries, and commissioning work for clients.
Jean-Paul embraces the need to constantly explore and evolve in his creative process, and this sense of evolution is apparent in his work through use of color, line, geometric shapes, repetition, and space.
In his artwork, a carefully choreographed optical illusion of color in motion manipulates the perception between the eye and the brain, generating a sensation of movement and vibration as the viewer moves across the work— making them an essential part of the experience.
He explains, “My work draws its bold sense of individualism and vivid use of color from the rich cultural experiences I’ve had throughout my life. I was born to Lebanese parents, raised in Caracas-Venezuela, and have lived in the US since the age of 15. These cultures are steeped in traditions that have influenced my perspective and approach to art in a contemporary style.”
